Japanese Speech Contest - April 3rd
Tennessee Area Japanese Language Students to Compete
Students of the Japanese language from ten universities will gather to compete at the third annual Tennessee Area Japanese Speech Contest, to be held Sat., April 3, at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)in Murfreesboro. Top prizes are awarded for efforts to master the Japanese language, from beginning and intermediate to advanced levels.
MTSU hosts the contest for the first time, following the success of Vanderbilt University which hosted years one and two of the contest. Members of the Host Committee also include the Japan-America Society of Tennessee and the Consulate General of Japan in Nashville.
The 2010 contest is generously supported by contributions from corporate sponsors Mitsui USA Foundation; Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc.; American Airlines; Brother International, Inc.; Toshiba; and The Japan Foundation.
Students from language programs at Austin Peay State University, Belmont University, East Tennessee State University, Maryville College, University of Memphis, Middle Tennessee State University, Murray State University, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, University of Tennessee at Martin and Vanderbilt University will receive participation gifts, along with cash awards and top prizes as follows:
• Grand prize: Round-trip American Airlines ticket to Japan
• First prize winners in three categories (beginning, intermediate & advanced): Dual-Language Electronic Dictionaries
• Second prize winners in three categories: Toshiba Portable DVD Players
• Third prize winners in three categories: Brother Multi-Function Centers
